Timber Framers Guild Forums Archive Archive -- Timber engineering Structural Grad School

I have my undergrad in mechanical and am looking for a good structural engineering grad school. I would like to know if there is any school that specializes or is well regarded in timber design so that I might take some of my classes in my area of interest. thanks for all responses in advance.

Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va has an excellent structural engineering program. However, that program seems to focus more on steel. Alamaba in Tuscaloosa, AL does more work in wood. NC State in Raleigh, NC also has an excellent structural program, but I'm not sure of area of concentration.

NC State definitely has a good Engineering program, but like most others they concentrate on steel and concrete. At least they did years ago when I was there. There were timber courses available then, but they did not cover any timber joinery, just bolted and nailed connections. The courses did provide basic timber design which is necessary prior to getting to joinery design. It may be worth contacting them to see what is available now.
