Dear friends,
My name is Mike Deibert. I am a missionary in Nicaragua. My main focus right now is vocational education for young people. I teach blacksmithing mostly but want to expand into woodworking as well. I really like traditional joinery especially that which is done with hand tools such as chisels and draw knives. I am not very experienced and learning from others here is out of the question. I am looking for a contact who may be able to offer advice. I was wondering if anyone might know of a dvd that I could buy to help me learn to make traditional mortise and tenon joints. I would like to apply this to table making using 5x5 lumber for the bases. I really love the look of a well made mortise and tenon and would love to start making my own. I can only assume that the necessary tools would be a corner chisel and a straight chisel or slick. Does that sound right? I plan to go back to the states for Christmas and would love to buy the proper tools to make this joint and other joints as well.
What instructional dvd’s can you offer and what tools should I look for?
