Hello,
Can anyone recommend a good books for a beginner? I have some engineering experience, but would like a book that lays out the basics. After working through this book I'd like to move on to a more advanced book that goes into more significant detail.

Does anyone have any suggestions for books like these?
Thanks

BJC:
Welcome to the forum.

There are lots of book available at the online store of the guild. If you're interested in "square rule" joinery then either or both of Jack Sobon's books are great for beginners.

Also, Steve Chapell's book is good for mill rule layout.

Ted Benson's book "Building the timber frame house" is good for understanding the sequence of cuts necessary to create joints.

These are some of the first books, I read on timber framing.

Good luck with your projects.
