I am interested in knowing if anyone has any experience in designing and constructing traditional chinese, korean or japanese temple brackets. These structures are known in chinese as "duodong." Any reference material that you might be aware of would be helpful. Thanks very much.

I specialize in the folk architecture of Asia, (e.g. Chinese, Chise, Korean hanok, Japanese Minka, etc.) Asian bracket design and methodology is a more refined for of Asian architecture. So I would recommend contacting- Richard Wiborg. He is a TFG member and probably could answer your questions. Best of luck.

Richard recently just did a workshop at a TFG conference on Chinese brackets.





He had a handout that he may be able to get to you. As you can see it's a pretty intense exercise.

Peter Weschler (another Guild guy) also has done Japanese and Korean brackets. There's an article on a Korean pavilion that he did in an older Guild magazine.
