I oiled portions of my frame before fitting and am now ready to finish the rest of the members and roof boards now that frame is up, but I notice that the timbers that had boiled linseed applied now seem to be somewhat "yellow" in color. The timbers are Doug fir and show a lot of that pretty "pink" heart wood. I am not thrilled by the slight color change. Is there a way to concoct a mixture of oil/solevent/stain or whatever to just enhance or enrichen that heart wood color with out the yellow hue of the linseed oil? It is more noticeable on the lighter colored sap wood portions of the timbers.I am not so opposed to "darkening" as much as I am agianst that "yellow" hue. Thnx bman

Are you cutting the linseed oil with 50 percent turpentine?

Then you could try cutting it so that your applied batch is 50% linseed oil and 50% turpentine. Try it on a sample leftover block and see how it looks first....

Wood will tend to 'yellow' anyway just from exposure to light. Linseed oil tends to darken.

I think it's all part of the beauty and character of natural materials and time.

That Doug Fir will darken considerably over time
Enough to mitigate the yellow of the linseed oil
