I have a historical society in NJ that I have been giving advice to on their Dutch barn. They also own a 1760 gristmill that is in need of stabilizing. The majority of the work, at the moment, is with the stone work. Does anyone know of a group like this one who are concerned with period stone work. Maybe some of you NJ timberframers might know of a "local" person who does period stone work.

I realize that this is a little off topic but the framing work that needs to be done can't be accomplished until the masonary is stabilized.

I would start by checking in with the NPS (National Park Service) to see if they have any experience with stone workers down there. I suspect you will de dealing with limestone or sandstone - both of which are fairly easy to work. The trick will be to avoid tool marks and such that speak of modern times. Whereabouts on NJ is the project? If you can't find someone send me an email.

Thanks for the suggestions. The mill is located in Hunterdon County. I am not too familiar with NJ so your guess is as good as mine. Will followup the leads and if we hit a snag will cry Help! once more.
