Or if you're a lazy beggar like me...just mix PVA glue (most common water-resistant wood glues) with water 1:2 or 1:3...it's cheap (less than $1 per liter), clear (can read timber crayon through it, etc) and non-toxic (so off-cuts can go in the woodstove)
