To post an image it has to be stored somewhere on the WWW, some people use image hosting sites other's store them on their personal or business webspace.
When you are posting (or editing a post), below the box for text entry is a group of buttons labeled "Instant UBB Code". Clicking the botton marked IMAGE will bring up an input box where you enter the complete web address of the photo and hit enter.
Paste this for an example if you don't have anything handy on the web:
http://www.forestryforum.com/gallery/albums/userpics/12870/WO-joist-01sm_2.jpg The dialog box inserts the image information and correct UBB code to display it automatically. UBB code is nearly identical to html only a bit more limited in scope.
