I was just a little curious about the wide spread use of Doug-fir. I live in the south east and since we try to use locally harvested timber as often as possible we tend to not consider Doug-fir. Even if the client was dead set on using Doug-fir, we generally try and steer the client away from using it out of doors(preferring Cypress or white oak instead). However, we have heard of and seen Doug-fir used in those applications, quite commonly. Are we correct in assuming that Doug-fir is not the preferred choice of species in the outdoors or does it hold up far better than we think?
I am very curious to learn. Please don't be greedy with the info.
thanks
