We cut curves in timbers on stationary band saws frequently. as long as you have the throat height to take the piece of wood and good infeed and outfeed support, should be no problem. You will want a wider blade than you would use for 3/4" stuff. we use 3/4" wide bands on our smaller saw. We also have a 5 horse 30" throat bandsaw that will take anything we can shove through it.
