Greetings,
I need to anchor posts for an open frame and was wondering if anyone has recommendations? 7" x 7" posts.

There are lots of things you can use, but everyone will ask you: "what's the load they will be carrying?" And you need to have something that will support that load.
Also, being an open frame you'll need something with some "hold down" strength as well.....

I agree with the hold down strength. I was thinking of 10" footings 4 feet deep with some type of anchor imbedded in it.
As to load, the frame is comprised of 950 board feet of pine not including the metal roof (14' x 16')

... also consider keeping the post off the masonry or concrete to prevent moisture wicking... some anchors do this by design, others do not. a piece of stainless works, or scrap of flashing, or abs plastic (the hard black type) etc.

Hi John, I am no expert, however, I am doing a project now and have done some research. 2 main companies make these types of post bases. Simpson Strong Tie and USP. Below is the link to the USP Catalog for bases: http://www.uspconnectors.com/pdf-full-line-2009/Categories/capsbases55.pdfI used the PAU88R (These are for 8x8 Rough sawn post) EXTREMELY Heavy Duty. Imbed 1/2 Foundation bolts (Look like a L) into concreete. A bit pricey ... $60 buck per, but I only want to do in once. Jeff L

in my eye all of the simpson and similar bases / connectors are fugly.
if the connector is going to be visible have a local metal shop fab up something. plenty of options floating around out there for design ideas.

We use Timberlinx A475 to anchor all our 4-sided exposed posts. They result in a hidden connection (other than a 1" plugged hole) and are pretty economical compared to a custom knife plate connection - about $35 per connection. I like the fact that we get to drill and epoxy them so we're not relying on the 'accuracy' of anchor placement by the concrete contractor.
