I picked up about 1000 pcs of round 1.5" red oak blanks from a custom chair maker who's closing up shop. Instead of burning them in our stove I thought I'd save this nice stock, take a shortcut on pegmaking , and shave them down to size I need...
My only concern is with the quality of this material... is it "too processed" (ie. heat treated and/or dry/brittle?) for pegs?

I think there's some advantage to having the peg stock drier than the timbers - the timber will shrink around the peg and lock it in place. Just keep an eye on grain runout. CB.

Wet timber plus dry dry pegs means tight tight fits.

A good opportunity for drawbore.

didn't know if furniture stock went through some type of voodoo treatment

Dry pegs and green timber may lead to split timbers.
I would cut them to lenght and soak them in water for a week.
Not only will they shave better but they will shrink again with the timber and they will be more flexable for draw boring.
