So I was just watching a new episode of "Dirty Jobs" with Mike Rowe. I just got to thinking how he, and many of the people he features share a lot in common with the characters of the guild. Does timber framing qualify as a dirty job? If not, at least some of it's members would qualify as being dirty! So what if the guild submitted a suggestion to Dirty Jobs for them to film a segment at a guild event? They've been pretty desperate lately to find new things. Specifically I have in mind the "Outta the chicken house" interviews Joel did on the Gindler barn project. They are on Youtube and if the person who reviews stuff on dirty jobs was pointed to some of those good videos, it might peak their interest. I bet Joel knows some other good footage representative of what goes on at guild events. It would seem to fit well with how they stage a dirty jobs segment - the philosophy, the individual jobs, safety, comedy, and the raising. If this actually got on the airwaves, I think it would do a bunch to spread awareness of the guild. I suppose you could do it with a timber frame company, but my thinking is with a guild event, you'll get a lot of real characters who will provide more material to choose from for the segment. And there definitely are some real characters for sure! Do you know who you are?
I think that's a great idea. He does some jobs that are not necessarily dirty too, but just good hard honest work, which timber framing qualifies. I think it would make a good episode of Dirty Jobs as well.
