Timber Framers Guild Forums General General Forum Questions Book Recomendations for Beginner

I'm a Software Engineer by trade and a Woodworker by hobby. I've done everything from small boxes to outdoor decks and pergolas. I'm converting all the trim in my house to craftsman and adding craftsman post and beam details wherever I can. Now that Spring is here I have the outdoor project bug and I'm planning on doing a Timber Frame pergola to go with my brick pizza oven I built last summer. I have a friend who's taken a class and built his own project at home so I have some help but I'd like to find a book that would help outline some of the basic techniques of timber framing that I'd be using for my project.

Jack Sobon's "Build a Classic Timber Framed House" or "Timber Frame Construction" The first details an 18'x36' hall and parlour Colonial house, the second a 12'x16' garden shed.

Thanks for the invite, I might do that some time. I think I've got a pretty good handle on SketchUp and the TF Rubies plugin. I got the TF Rubies book in the mail yesterday and that answered the questions I still had after watching the videos. For my first SketchUp and TF project I thought I'd start with some sawhorses similar to what Jim designed.
