Yes, mill the timber - Pond 'em, (is that maybe legislated against at this point?) or sprinkle/spray the tight pile (not crib-like with air space) sawlogs till then, but mill them at your earliest convenience.

They'll still check, but should do so more evenly, and you want your timber to begin to season, though that is still a slow process.
