Hi,

A recent purchase was a Skil 8 1/4 worm drive. The base is a piece of junk. I guess the downfall of not being able to handle what you want before you buy it....

I have been looking online, but can't seem to find a vendor that has aftermarket bases for this saw.

Anybody have one that they changed out and been pleased?

If you have a good machine shop or a water/laser jet shop near by, they can cut out a saw base for you in less than a min. I've made two bases this way, one for my 16" mak and one for a 7 1/4" Skil being morphed into a 10" saw

I think the bigfoot conversion kits are the only "off the shelf" bases you'll find for this saw and they're not cheap

I kind of put that project on the backburner. Once I got comfortable using the bigmak, I use it on everything my 8 1/4" saw can't cut.
I can send you the base for whatever it costs me in shipping. You'll have to drill out the spot welds on your base and remove the quad and pointer, mark the holes on the new plate, drill and countersink three bolts to hold it all together.
The slide mount is integrated into the new base, so it'll bolt right up.
I'll try to dig it up this week..

there used to be an aftermarket worm-saw base called the "swing table". I bought one a few years back for my linear link chain beam saw-- which uses a skil worm saw motor. They may have gone belly up.

Hey Devin, I think I have seen one of those before.

The 8 1/4 doesnt get used to much, but when other saws are being used....

The base is so crappy that is feels like it wants to float and rotate and go any which way. Now, you could say operator error and you might be right, but the skils base doesn't hold a candle to my Bosch 7 1/4 worm base.

Big Foot Tools is the company that makes the swing tables.

I don't have a swing table, but I have a big foot saw. It has a really big opening around the blade so that it can bevel. It's a little wobbly if you're ripping a tenon on a 3" wide brace. I imagine that the swing table base has an even larger opening.

Hi mo, finally found it in one of the storage boxes...
The footprint is 8x14.5 and it does need some finishing work.
