I have been using Barr chisels with good results for a while now. I am looking to get a couple new chisels to back up my old Barr chisels and I thought maybe try Japanese style. I have always heard great things about Japanese chisels and I have used a Japanese slick before and found it to work really nice. Does anybody have a reputable source they would share for 1.5" and 2" Japanese timber frame chisels? thanks tb

If you are interested in framing chisels, here are some stuff of our work.

We are hand forging (by hand hammers) timber framing tools from 9260 spring steel.

The blade is hand forged, hardened and differentially tempered.

The hardness of the blade varies from Rockwell 63-64.

For anti rust, the steel has been threaten using traditional mixture of beeswax, linseed oil and turpentine.

Handles are hand lathed from elm tree and then linseed oiled and bees waxed.

Chisel dimensions:

9 1/2 " - Blade
4 " - Socket
5 " - Handle
18 1/2 " - Overall

Slick dimensions:

15 1/2" - Blade with socket.
17 1/2" - Handle
33" - Overall

wow, now THAT is sharp.. I need to spend more time with my stones

Not necessarily stones but buffers. I am growing more fond of my leather strop with compound applied to work the wire off the edge. These guys are using power buffers if I am not mistaken?
