We are hand raising a frame in Colorado on June 2. I am looking for feedback on available block and tackle systems. I would be interested in purchasing this tool if a member has one available. As far as construction of A-frames, derricks, and gin poles... that's beyond my limits of comfort. Hopefully a few of the folks more experienced with those remain active in the forums.

This matter was addressed not so long ago here by a post with very handy reference to a company selling all the best of such equipment located out there in Maine. They have a catalog with many rigging diagrams and while I have the downloaded version in pdf form, the www location on the internet slips my mind and the original post cannot be relocated here on this forum. Maybe a more detailed search would turn something up or another poster will pipe in with more specific information because the stuff in the catalog looks like fine equipment along the lines of the enquiry.

I have just discovered that it is very easy to attach photos to facebook, a lot simpler than photobucket. So if you go to the link you will see some gin pole stuff. I made these caps up after getting tired of wrapping guy lines to the top of the pole. I can twist the pole with out wrapping the guys around, too. I find I often want to use the pole in a different positions and it needs to be spun, the guys get funky and it usually is a mess. These caps make for quick work and aid in different lifts. Winter raisings are so fun, every thing unties so well, especially after a wet rain/snow and things freeze up. Gin poles require attention to detail, things can go wrong quickly, use caution at all times. I had a pole come down during this raising due to ice on the floor. no harm done. I remember it happening, I saw it in slow motion. I did learn from it. Keep the base anchored at all times. We were shifting the pole from one place to another, in the process it was tilted too far and the base slid out.
