I think it's a good suggestion. To my eye, it seems to be one of the best ways to conquer a little shrinkage... Your board can be on the backside of your timber, but if the timber happens to shrink away from that paint, you can see that nasty little line of bare board. I believe the other advantage is that you can board when the roof is on (instead of attaching board to sips) and/or save the time of screwing on those furring strips.
Having said that, I don't have much drywalling experience, so the time added for installing that little 'edge bead' may work out to be a wash...
