Well, That sounds quite odd.
If I understand you correctly you are speaking of Canted PURLIN POST's rather than Queen Posts. The latter being in a true truss assembly.
In a typical Canted Purlin Post roof assembly there are supporting struts which brace the Canted Post. These supposting struts do point towards the ridge, while the Canted Purlin Post's point towards the eave.
What location did you see this structure?
Was it new or old?
Were the members hewn, sawn, etc.
