Going to switzerland for the ski season smile but next year Canada! As soon as my little house is done, I'm ready to get some more experience in log building and timber framing. One more month before applying for my visa wink

Indiana

But family and friends in the Berner Oberland, not far from Thun. They would be across the ridge to the north from you, in the high Alps.

If you go up to Adelboden, that is where every year the world ski championships are held. Wonderful place, and tremendous architecture.

The roof framing of Schloss Thun is the most impressive heavy timber framing I have ever seen in my life, worth the admission price to the Castle Museum just in itself (which is like, 5 or 10 franks maybe?) Then there are the old wooden bridges in Thun, also impressive. I would highly recommend a visit.

If you really want to see some great buildings, do not hesitate to go to the Ballenberg Museum if you ever can make it, unfortunately it is closed until 12 April 2014.

I have family in Schwarzenberg. The Bähler family comes from Wattenwil which is very near Schwarzenberg, the next valley over.

There are many Bählers in Canton Bern, but we are all related back far enough. We always said there are only 2 places in the world where the name is common -At the foot of the Alps in the Canton of Bern, and in west-central Indiana.
