I use 1.5" and 2" framing chisels the most. Sometimes I use a 1", but that is rare. My slicks are 3" to 3 3/8". 3" is fine. If you are working by hand a lot, then I'd want a 3 1/2# axe with a 26" to 28" handle, and another with a 36" handle for scoring and heavier work. I also use a broad axe for hewing and other shaping chores.
