The Oxfordshire Woodland Group is holding an open day at their woodland cruck barn in South Oxfordshire, England on Wednesday 19th June 2024 where attendees will be able to enjoy a guided walk of the woods followed by the opportunity to see the cruck barn and meet first hand the woodland cruck builders.

The cruck barn is located in the Chiltern Hills which were home to the bodgers who were a group of greenwood workers that made components for Windsor chairs and other similar tree in the woods. OWG is particulalry interested in meeting up with hurdle and split lath makers engaged in timber-frame panel infill using wattle & daub. The Marian Friars Minor have decided and are detrmined to use this technique in the building of their monastery complex in Kentucky where Jim Rogers has designed and directed the making and raising of their woodland retreat cabins.

Thanks for that update / correction Jim. There appears to be error on the Friars website

Given that location is close to home for you I have noted in their videos that the trees on their property look great for sawmilling.

Do you know what kind of trees are being used ?.

The first trees that the harvested for the 16x20' cabin were tulip poplar. They intend to buy logs, hopefully eastern white pine for the future construction of the Friary.
