Mark, if you are up for a challenge here’s a cool idea. If the structure you want is a “clamshell” what about making it elliptic or circular in plumb section or elevation as well as in plan?

Groin Vault Mathematics pages. The intersecting barrels of the groin vault form elliptic “Valleys”; the clamshell is the “Hip” version. (Hips, Valleys, who cares? Same thing).
I think I’ve got the
geometry , algebra and trig down pat … but have never had the opportunity to try this out in the real world … whatcha think? How's your spirit of adventure?
