Timber Framers Guild Forums General Straw Bales & Other Enclosure Systems cellulose

I was wondering if anyone has made walls using blown-in cellulose insulation. We will be raising a small frame--16 x 32--this summer. We will probably use SIPs for the roof, but I was thinking of making built-up walls using cellulose. It seems like it is an environmentally good product, and the R values seems good as well.

straw is also pretty cheap....with great R-value.

Mark, Thank you for the idea about straw. Unfortunatley, however,I think that idea is a bit too extreme for the building inspector in Connecticut. I did enquire here a few months ago about straw panels, but it seems that they are no longer being produced. Blown-in cellulose is supposed to be pretty good stuff. Because our house is going to be so small, I thought that a built-up wall system might be the way to go. Also, I think that you had curriculum spelled okay the first time around.

i'm wondering how you will build a big enough cavity to get decent R-value cheaply with cellulose?
