Timberframer Hierarchy - 04/22/03 01:01 PM

Are there levels of timberframers and descriptions of each of these lavels?
For example: Apprentice-journeyman-master joiner...Etc.

Not yet.

We're working on developing a partnership with the Rottweil Academie people in Germany to formalize training of timberframers.

It will likely come with a certificate of achievement.

Stay tuned.

Do we get more information ?
What will the partnership look like?
What training goals do you have?
How will you formalize the training?
Why did you pick Rottweil over Memmingen or other places like GB or the Netherlands etc?

I did hope to get more info by now.

Thank you

There are no widely-recognized levels of accomplishment in North American timber framing. This may be a consequence of the American independent spirit, or simply reflective of our relative youth, as a trade and as a country.

At the foundation meeting of the TFG a great deal of time was devoted to these kinds of questions. We eventually decided that it was in our best interests to focus on the free exchange of information rather than move in the direction of becoming the certifying body for professional timber framers.

And that's the short answer!

Look in your Scantlings next month for an invitation to participate in a three-week program of training in Rottweil for experienced timber framers. Co-sponsored by the TFG, likely scheduleed for November, 2003.
