I can't answer your question, but have wondered the same thing.

I think of this as a more general questions, esp. for those of us who work alot with reclaimed materials.

Old timbers are so dry and so hard, it really tears up your tools.

I'd like to see more discussion on techniques and tool advice working with resawn members, and/or repairs of older frames.
