Interesting that he scores, joggles and finishes all with the same axe.

He is using more than one axe... but that is an interesting choice of axe for scoring and joggling. He used a smaller axe to score and joggle. If it get the job done, then it gets the job done.

I spent a morning with Mike learning how to hew, he's a great guy and very knowledgeable. He has several axes that he uses, a scoring axe, different hewing axes and a felling axe.

I tried different axes and quickly developed a favorite, I'm sure that anyone that tried hewing would do the same.

Here is Mike's website:

I've built a barn and a shed out of sawn timbers. I plan to hew some pines this winter and build a screened porch next summer. Still looking for a good hewing axe, hard to find at a reasonable price.

I met Mike, and learned to hew from him (and a few others) at a TFG event.

He actually almost always scores with a chainsaw. The modern version of scoring with the 2 man saw seeb at the TFG Poland project. I don't think that he would typically score or juggle with a hewing axe, but you use what's at hand.
