The best way to start????? - 10/18/05 10:35 AM

Hi:

I'm really keen to begin working on a timber frame project, with the intention of building my own house in the near future, probably a 1.5 storey with loft rooms.

I've got a couple of books, and have just ordered 3 more, Tedd Benson, another Jack Sobon and the Steve Chappell one.

Problem is, there are very few traditional timber framers in Australia (a business opportunity for me???) and I am wondering whether i can get to the house building skill level without a course of some sort.

I'm in the UK for 6 weeks over christmas and am even consideing a week in the US to attend a course if one is running.

Any ideas, tips, hints would be most useful.

G'day Steve

You really want to visit Rob Hadden at his place in Castlemaine...65 miles outside Melbourne: marmalade@castlemaine.net

Check out Timber Framing, Issue 74, Dec 2004 and Issue 58, December 2000.

Best of luck!

Gord

Thanks for the reply Gord, I'll give him a go.

I have found the most perfect block of land I want to buy, but want to make sure I can achieve my short term goal of getting a small family home built, I'm tooooooooo confident of my own abilities !!
