2015 Swiss Tour - 09/29/14 07:06 PM

We (myself and the Guild) are working on organizing a tour of timber frames and log houses in the Swiss Canton of Bern. Right now we are planning on the end May 2015. More details can be found on my blog (link in signature) and I'll have more specific information as soon as it is certain.

Thanks for working to make this happen - it sounds like a great opportunity!

I've just put up a tentative schedule. The same info, plus some info regarding costs and other related info will be posted by the guild at some point soon as well, and will also appear in next month's Scantlings.

I'd be very happy if everyone would sign up very soon! That would make scheduling hotels, meals, etc. so much easier!
In all seriousness, however, I do hope that many of you will be able to go. I am trying my best to make this a rewarding experience, and am having great difficulties with the schedule, because there is just so much great stuff I will have to leave out!

I actually plan on spending something like 2 months in the country myself, doing some rather extensive research. I plan to write an in depth book on the architecture, and would really like to treat the whole of the country's architecture (all 26 Cantons have their own unique styles) fairly, rather than perpetuating my obvious bias toward my own Bernese roots.
I'll be putting up info about that project on my blog as well.

But I am opening an invitation to an guild members, if you'd like to accompany me at any point during my travels other than the official portion of the tour, you are welcome to! The rest of my trip isn't so -organized.
