Need a definition for a "Shoe Joint" - 12/20/14 06:19 PM

Can someone here define a "Shoe Joint" as it relates to Timber Framing or General Carpentry?

Thanks in advance.

Not a term that I have used or heard of but it seems like a housed post bottom, just a swing in the dark. Or could it be a term from another culture translated to English? One other thing, shoes and boot can refer to metal brackets.

Hi Jim;

I had not heard of a shoe joint. Looking for an answer I found one definition meaning a cast iron "shoe" which holds the bottom of a door stud in place https://books.google.com/books?id=5lcUAQAAMAAJ or types of iron joint reinforcement in timber framing https://books.google.com/books?id=3ko1AAAAMAAJ.

Happy hunting;
Jim
