blue-stain or beetle kill wood

I'm a timber framer turned grad student looking for information about beetle kill wood and it's application in timber framing. I have looked around and haven't found much. I remember from my joinery days that beetle kill timber has a less than favorable reputation. Could anyone elaborate on this?
