ceiling board finishes

I will be putting yellow pine ceiling boards in the great room of my red oak timber frame. Any advise on finishes,stains, oils to use for a nice finish? Another suggestion was to use cypress. I don't want the frame to get "lost" in the ceiling. Any positive experiences would be greatly appreciated.Thanks
