I'm not a timber framer, but I play one in my backyard.

dj - don't know what your application is, but a friend and I just raised a timber frame bent 24' wide by 20' high, using a tripod made from 4x4x16 posts. We had considered a gin pole, but the tripod seemed easier and more stable. If interested, send e-mail for more info. jkebear
