Does anyone know what the live and dead loads
would be for something like a balcony in a church or theatre?

According to the IBC 2000, live load in assembly areas and theaters is 60 psf for areas with fixed seating and 100 psf in areas with movable seating.
Dead load must be calculated based on the actual materials used to build the structure. There is no specified minimum value.
