Can anybody recommend some books on building a hammer beam truss ?
"English Historic Carpentry" by Cecil A. Hewett is a reference well worth owning. Pay close attention to the "flying buttress" detail to resolve your thurust. Thick heavily reinforced concrete stem walls will also do the trick, but are not nearly as elegent.
