Drill bit Buyer Beware

Drill bit Buyer Beware - 11/19/03 07:24 PM

Being in a hurry to have to drill many holes for a quick project, I checked out the lead Jim Rogers had in his response for 3" drill bits. I needed something different (13/16 bit with a 2-1/4 c.s. attached combo) and tried this place "Advantage Drills Inc.". I would NOT recommend this place to anyone!! They are way over priced, they lied about shipping time and took over two weeks, and the "Eliminator" bits they sell are shotty! I get 100% better holes from my cheap Irwin double spurs.
I'm having a problem with a bit I bought, that a sales guy there insisted was the best bit for the job. It won't selffeed when it is supposed to. There are obvious problems with its construction. So after waiting 2+ weeks for it to come, I call and explain the problem. Well all they want to do is replace it and have me return the faulty one on my dime. Or they will take back the faulty bit for a 30% restocking fee! They charged $13.88 for shipping of one 13/16" x 12" bit, and won't take care of the return charges! Anyway, Please beware of this business. I want to make sure no one else pays to much for crappy bits and poor business practices. If you need to find something odd for drilling holes, contact me I have better alternatives. The 2-1/4 c.s. attachment is ok but was WAY overpriced.

I personally have never got any tools from the place I suggested you check out.
If you have a better place to deal with.
Post it.

I'd like to know about this source for a 13/16 x 2-1/4 Countersink (do you really mean counter bore?) bit. I could have used one of them for laying my 7x7 sills. I counterbored to a 4 inch depth with a 2" Forstner and then switched to a 7/8" paddle bit to make the holes that accept my threaded-rod sill ties. One tool to accomplish this job would be nice.
