new milwaukee 10 1/4'' saw - 09/28/09 07:34 PM

Hi,

Is anybody out there using the new milwaukee 10'' saw? How does it compare with thier older saw? I use their older 10'' saw and like it very much. I have been in the market for another 10' saw for awhile. How does it compare to the new Makita 10''? I would appreiciate any replies. Thanks.

In my opinion the Milwaukee 10" saw is the worst saw out there. It is the saw I started with and it has almost been thrown against the wall so many times. I find it really hard to keep square with the base. My suggestion for a new 10" saw in the same price range would be the Big Foot saw. It is a Bosch saw adapted with a 10" in (or 14" if you want to go big) blade. I am happy with this saw.

IF you add a thicker aluminum base to the saw like the ones that you can get for the 16" makitas, they work great. The Milwaukee takes a licking and keeps on ticking. I set one on fire one day I got it so hot. After it cooled down it kept on working.

Where do you get a better base plate for the Milwaukee?

I haven't seen any aftermarket bases for milwaukees, but if this is the saw you're referring to, it should be simple enough to take the stock al. base off and replace it with a larger plate and reuse the stock quad and slider wink

Mine must be older. I got it about 4-5 years ago. Looks a bit different. My depth adjustment is done by loosening a knob at the front and sliding the whole saw up and down. Big pain in the butt. Bad design.

I agree, Tim. I have an older model, and it's a POS. This one looks nicer. I'll have to wander down to 7 corners hardware in St. Paul and have a look-see. CB.

I hated my Milwaukee saw until I got the better base plate, I ordered it from Grainger. Now it is my favorite saw. I think the plate is about $40.
