Timber Carts - 01/02/17 04:57 PM

I'm looking around for a cart which I can move timbers and lumber around on,

where could I look to buy one? I'm in San Diego area. Don't have time to order one and have it shipped here.

Generally speaking timber carts are built by timber framers to meet their individual needs using wheel barrow or light trailer tires, steel rod axle and a wooden frame. Match the size to sawhorse height and loader forks for ease of loading. You should be able to knock one out quickly. You will find that you may have to get to version 2 or 3 to refine the design well.

I'm building these carts.

  • Welded thick walled aluminum tubing frame
  • Solid 1" steel axle
  • Motorcycle tires
  • Heavy duty steel wheels with tubular spokes
  • Ball wheel bearings, commonly available and easily replaceable
  • Powder coated finish on steel parts
  • Supports padded with rubber to grip timber
  • Comfortably handles a 12" timber
  • Capacity 725 lb (full rated capacity of the tires)
  • Fits through 30-1/2" opening/doorway
  • Quick wheel removal without tools
  • Folding frame for easy compact transport or storage, again very quick and without tools

I designed this cart and personally machine, fabricate, and weld the cart and all of its pieces, excluding powder coating, small hardware, and wheels.

I've been making and selleng them for a couple months and I'm presently working through several orders that came in during the holidays. My end goal is to have them ready made and on hand for speedy delivery, until then there will be a slight dealy in shipping while I finish each cart. (Thanks in advance for your patience and understanding)

For more info or further questions my email is in my profile, or look me up in the directory.

Thanks,
Grigg

Thanks guys, good to hear y'll are enjoying them!

I'm all caught up on orders and have carts in stock ready to ship.
Just added a few more pictures to the album:

Including a couple with hard rubber tires, an extra cost option. These would be great in a shop on a hard floor/pavement, less good on gravel and not good at all on soft ground.
The standard motorcycle tires I'd say are the best all around choice, larger footprint and softer ride.
