General Liability Ins. - 03/17/04 09:06 PM

Every year it seems I have a new battle with getting Gen. Liability Ins. I've never had a claim in eight years of business yet it seems like every other year I either get dropped or the company I'm with jacks the rates 300%. The most recent reason for policy cancellation is that I do (or am willing) to business anywhere in the country (New Zealand would be nice too) and that the ins company does not have coverage in all 50 states. Wind River Timberframes, my company is a small outfit (I have 5 employees) and we do about 7 to 10 projects a year. Does anyone have any suggestions or advice on where to go to get insurance from someplace that at least knows what timber framing is? Damn it Jim, I'm a timberframer, not an insurance agent.

Thanks,
Alan Bernholtz

i would suggest using a small local insurance broker
if you are a small business then you may do best working with a small business....
try farm insurance places?
or ask around at the machine shops in your town
-that would be a similar risk factor unless you have no power tools.....
-Mark in ontario.

First of all this is a general business question and shouldn't have been posted here in the software section.
This section is for discussing software.

But, I'd try contacting the Timber Framers Guild business council and see if they can help you find an insurance company that understands timber framing or timber framers.
I would hope there are these type of insurance companies out there.

Good luck, Jim.
