Rubies for Mac?

Hello,

My PC bit the dust, and I have replaced it with a mac. I really enjoyed using the plugins on my old machine... am I able to make it work with a Mac?

Clark, I noticed on your download page that it is for windows only, but I thought I'd ask.

I don't know if I can go back to making scantling lists the old way.

The TF Rubies work equally well on tha Mac, with one exception: exporting the timber list directly to excel. You can still export to a text file, which you can then import into excel. You just won't get the fancy formatting and BF formulas. CB.

Please take a look at NeoOffice and OpenOffice.

I believe you will find full Excel functionality for the Mac there - and it's Open Source, just like timber framing.

But the software that I use in the rubies to operate xcel "by remote control" (win32ole.so) does not run on the mac. CB.

Thanks guys. Had just discovered NeoOffice (which works great for many things) and the first test was Clark's rubies - but, no luck. It's landing as a text file, and I can import it to excel for mac.

The Mac world has been an interesting learning process - seems that many things are more intuitive, but only a small part of the world works with them. Kinda like metric and imperial.

Just curious what would happen if you tried to export to an excel file on the mac. It's a configuration option under the TF Rubies main menu. CB.

macs rock, I used a mac for years, then along came sketchup and my mac was too slow to run it.
I probably should have searched out a used mac, but ended up getting a pc. They are just so damn cheap for a used machine, under 1000 I have a 2 gig processor, and 23 inch and 21 inch dual monitors.
Just have to reload the operating system every other month, as windows seems to constantly collect crap.

Mark, your experience of Windows sounds difficult but it is not typical of mine. If you do not run Windows Update regularly, which can be set to run automatically, you can be much more likely to be infested. The computer I use is an eight year old Windows 2000 desktop and my wife's xp laptop have not required any reinstalled system software. We also have a router at the gate.
