where is the stress?

I drew a quick sketch for some info. one long gable with another intersecting the main gable. Common rafters on the intersecting gable, principal rafters and purlins on the main gable. Is this possible with all loads transferring to posts in the walls. Where would the most force be concentrated? Would it be at the bottom of the valleys? Can you build this stick frame style timber frame style?

Yes, you can.

You would approach this almost the same way you would for stick framing, almost.

First you need structual beams on all exterior walls, a structual ridge beam and depending on the span you might have to add another one along the span of the rafters( maybe 2/3 up or so).
Those beams now would sit on posts that will transfer your loads down towards the foundation. Don't forget the braces. The rafters have a seat cut and are fastened to the beams. Same is true for your valley rafters. Also you will need rafter ties so the roof will not push outwards. This design will put almost no stress on the valleys at all since they are resting on the structual beams.

I will try to find some pictures and post them later.
