Timbercad

Hi Ive been trying to get timbercad timber framing software for autocad. the timbercad website no longer exists They are out of business I think.
I have sent several emails to Ed Levin (the software devoloper) and tried to call but have not been able to contact them.
Anyone any ideas on how I can get this software.
Any suggestions welcome

I see that TimberCad is now available as an open-source add-on to AutoCad. I was a software engineer for 15 years before becoming a professional timber framer, but I'm still using a 2D drawing program for my frame design. I've never used and don't own AutoCad. Which version do I need? I see a lower-cost version called LT, will that work? How steep is the learning curve? I'm tempted, but I'm not sure I'm ready to make the plunge. CB.

TimberCAD will run on Acad 14 and up. But it will not run on AutoCAD LT. The learning curve is pretty steep AND that is why TimberCAD is useful because it makes AutoCAD much easier to use for Timber Frame design. Older versions of TCAD might be available still.

I'm about to download and try TimberCAD. I use Autodesk Inventor Series v9 (3D software). Since I went to engineering school when 3D was replacing 2D I never learned, or had the need for 2D autoCAD. I have autoCAD 2005 as part of my Inventor package but have never used it other than to view my colleques (the old guys down the hall...) work. I'm having pretty good success modeling my frames in Inventor and befroe inventor was modeling in Designwave (by the makers of ProE).

I don't see a forum for TimberCAD? Is this it? I'm sure I'll want to talk to others more once I download and see what this is all about.

Aerospace Engineer who works for a paper company and designs and works on timber frames on the side as Berkshire Barns.

In the main list of forums is a forum for software. That was created for discussing that subject and TimberCAD falls into that section.
But as Paul Freeman is the moderator of this section it's really up to him if he chooses to discuss it here or not.

I am running Autocad R14 on windows XP PRO. For some reason, when I try to edit the target line in the shortcut tab\properties\icon It responds with "the name specified in the Target box is invalid. Make sure the path and file name are correct." I decided to skip this step and load the menugroup as per instructions in the readme.txt. The menu loads, but I see no copyright declaration. Can you offer some assistance or refer me to a manual for this software. I started looking around the web and there is very little info available.

I started a topic under software named timberCAD. I just realized this topic is timber rame design. Although timbercad certainly falls under that category, I didn't want to confuse any one or appear to be completely inept. I am new to this internet thing so please bear with me. Thanks, Michael

Hi Paul,

The TimberCAD menu loads and if I select Curved Brace and then select say Brace3 I get an "unknown command" message in the command bar for all curved braces.

If I try to draw a post I get a message "posts cannot be drawn in plan or roof mode". I get this message even which I switch from plan to say front or back view.

All the other menu commands seem to respond OK.
