I'm hoping to find a Timber Frame designer in the San Diego area who could consult on a patio project I've started.
The concrete slab is 20x12 ft, but the two outside corners are cut at 45 degrees, 4ft from the outside edge. This will give a sort of Gazebo look I suppose. The original plans called for 6x6 posts and 6x12 beams. (Not a timber frame plan.) It also had 2 trusses with 4x10's on the bottom and 4x8's elsewhere. I'm thinking there's a better way to hold these beams together than brackets. Perhaps this isn't the best way to frame this?
I am not in any way a timber framer. I'm interested in learning though.
What would timber-framed 45 degree joints look like at the top of the posts (there are 4 of these)? There are currently metal straps in the concrete set at 22.5 degrees in 4 places.
