Hall & Parlour design guidelines?

Hall & Parlour design guidelines? - 12/20/07 04:41 PM

For those of you familiar with hall and parlour style of TF homes are there guidelines for the various proportions?

4 bent, 3 bay, 2 story and maybe a 3rd floor loft with a 12:12 roof.

Would the middle bay be 10 - 12 ' wide? depth? two outer bays?

I realize this depends alot on the size of the house, but am curious from some historic examples some of you may have seen.

I believe Jack Sobon's book Build a Classic Timber Framed House deals with this topic at length.

Oh that book is already in my library and was interested in what others have surveyed as well!

Hi Bruce;

The middle bay is usually the width of the chimney mass...often eight feet.
