Interesting...I was under the impression that they won seats by a somewhat larger margine.

Hey, I watched an interesting flick last night called American Blackout, a documentary about the 2000, 2004 votes. Can be found on line.

Tonights viewing: Wal-Mart: the high cost of low price.

A-ha! So americans DO watch these documentaries! I wondered if it was just a myth.
Do you think that they make a difference - and do Americans openly discuss these topics?

Haven't seen the documentaries you refer to but I never miss a chance to bash Walmart.

They don't need any more money, but plenty of local stores are struggling to stay in business. A lot of people blame walmart, and they are certainly not a good company, but I think a lot of it is our fault. Ultimately we decide who we do business with.

Just my 2c

cheers,

Well, I never did get to see the flic the other night...But I aready have a good understanding of how the inner sanctions of the fortress of evil works (yes, I have shopped there  )
Wal-mart, or Mall-Wart, as my son calls it, had a very difficult time getting into the nearby city of Nelson. There were many a protest, but they came, and we shopped. But we are lucky that there are many of us that still go for quality and localy produced goods and support our businesses.
The one franchise that never made it past the protesters, though, is MacDonalds.
YAY!

Oh, and another great doc I saw recently: Why We Fight. No red-blooded Amercican should miss this one!
If you've seen it I'd love some State side feed-back.
The reason I asked if you discuss this stuff is because we up here tend to get the perception that if the admin. is questioned, you're labeled as anti-American. Or at least that seemed to be the case 1-2 yrs ago.
We couldn't even question Bush if we were in Alberta! (There's still people there with Pro-Bush bumper stickers, and they're Canadians! Hard-core!)

It's gotten so divided that I'm reluctant to even bring up politics in polite conversation. I'm even reluctant to bring it up here, for fear of being seen as on the "wrong side". On a chat board, it's sometimes hard to appear reasonable and moderate, without that face-to-face interaction. But here's a hint: I've been a Minnesotan all my life, and it feels like things are finally getting back to normal. CB.

PS: The most important documentry for everyone to see (IMHO) is An Inconvenient Truth.

Hello, Daiku -
Here,Here! Derek -
I fully agree, we should be opinionated. That's how we learn new shit. Iam finding, however, that the people who are ok with talking about their political leanings tend to all lean a little left of center. At least the ones I encounter.
In a little haven such as 'axe throwing', where traditional TFers can converse freely with Hundegger operators, we should welcome all opinions and learn a little.
Just agree with me or I'm leaving.
KIDDING!
Growing up in Socialist Sweden, and having a mother who ran for the BC provintial left wing party...well, I suppose that gives away my leaning.

Should we go up and tell them?

Not that I don't enjoy your company, Derek, but how long can this last...really? :p
We're gonna grow old together down here, like the crazy cat people on the edge of town! smile

Using axe throwing venue suggests commentary should employ or follow some basic guidelines: Like it's axe model the commentary should exhibit good balance.
The weight should be tempered so as to enable ease of handling without strain.
The handle (handler ?) should be free of splinters and other maiming influences.
Both cutting edges should be maintained at optimum sharpness.
Never store your throwing axe on any furniture intended for sitting.
Add more guidelines as you see fit.
