Mall-Wart

Mall-Wart - 11/19/06 04:38 AM

So here's something - now, after our wal-mart bashing topic, my 17 yr old son has hitch-hiked into town (1 hr away) to spend the night outside the consumer heaven in order to be the first in line for the latest gameing system from nintendo.

It's going to be -5 degrees celcius tonight...

He is turning away from his hippy roots to become an entrepreneur (according to Bush, the French don't have a word for 'entrepreneur'); He's buying 3 and selling two immediately on ebay for a profit...useing gramma's credit card. The sad part is that I personally need this to work, as gramma's credit card is paying for the renos on gramma's house (built in 1898) which my brother and I are reno-ing.
So my kid better not screw this one up!

And Wal-Mart wins again!

Yah...and here he is...

...playing with the one he's keeping.
The other 2 are up on ebay...

They better sell, cause the cedar mill will be delivering the next load of shingles in 3 days.... eek

I'm so jealous... I'll have to wait until the price comes down next spring or so... the WII looks like an awsome system and I'm a nintendo fan from way back.... mario forever.
nice view out the window, by the way TG

Wellll...have I gotta deal for you! cool
...Naw. I wouldn't do that to friends; I'll let the kid make his millions wheelin' an dealin'.

Yes, the view. I often brag about it - that's beautiful Kootenay Lake, downtown Kaslo, and the Purcel mountains hiding behind the clouds; my little paradise!

oh, here's a better one..

...my daughter, Tarah, picking cherries

For any boat builders out there (Derek, wherever you went) Kaslo, is home to the SS Moyie, an old sternwheeler that has been beautifully restored..I won't go into it now, but google it!
It's right in the center of this shot, sitting on Kaslo beach. Great ship.

Mark - speaking of boat builders, did you ever come across an Irishman with an English accent that had been working in the States building boats @ Martha's Vineyard? (The guy gets around...!)
David is his name; I work with him, he's our shop foreman, and he talked about a Mark Davidson out your way...
Could it be...?

Re: Mall-Wart - 11/21/06 12:48 PM

hmmmmmm I know so many bloody davids, they seem to be a curse around here( wink ) Can't think of whether I may know the guy or not.
I'm in central ontario near peterborough....

Thanks for the second pic, I spent a bit of time in BC and would love to go back again someday, it is heavenly...

ok, I'm intrigued, what's the price on the WII?

Re: Mall-Wart - 11/21/06 04:32 PM

Hi, Mark -
Remember the Kids in the Hall?
"These are the Daves I know I know, these are the Daves I know..."
David Blishen is his full name; I'll ask him more about the circumstances under which he met this particular Mark D. I'll let you know if it's you!

The hopes for the Wii is the cost ($310 cnd) and a small profit at least, Peter (my son) has them posted on ebay for $350 USD...there's a few of them on there, and if it doesn't sell in 2 days I'll let you know. He has a friend interested in one for an extra $60. You would be looking at under $400cnd incl. shipping...I think...
I got sucked into watching him play Zelda, and I must say, it's like watching a movie which he is controlling! When the 1st Zelda came out (1986 or 7?) My friend and I got hooked - she played the game and I mapped it out for her. I think it took us 10 days - this a game that's supposed to take a month or so!
Ahh, to be young again and have ten days to do nothing but sit on your ass and stare at a TV screen...

Re: Mall-Wart - 11/27/06 03:52 PM

See what happens when you leave, Derek - wink
The rant turns to common chit chat.

Metric temp for cold right now, about -5, but due to be freezing ass cold, about -16 with wind chill, by tonight.

Power was out this am, roads are pretty crappy, so no work for me frown ... laugh !

Ok, this is what I woke up to:

and this is the driveway that took me 2 hrs to plow yesterday:

sooo...onto axe throwing, then?

Re: Mall-Wart - 11/27/06 06:57 PM

Ya, tell me about it! Now I gotta call in the plow guy cause the snow is too heavy, but he's busy, so I'm gonna be here for a while...

I'm pretty happy with the Ford 350 we use for work; my every day vehicle is a Toyota Matrix; my play vehicle is my 1974 Gran Torino Elite - between snow and the price of gas, it ain't goin' anywhere right now!

Re: Mall-Wart - 12/03/06 05:30 AM

A local kid bought one off us for $350...
Still got one here, but another kid has his eye on it.
They came out with a new batch at the store, but they flew off the shelves like the first batch.
Want it?

Re: Mall-Wart - 12/03/06 06:35 AM

back to wall mart....
a useful store at times, just grabbed a copy of 'the legend of Zelda twilight princess' for under $60cdn

but I cringe every time I buy something there.
the high cost of low prices.....

just for fun I did two searches on google
the first one was " walmart bad"
here is the first return:
http://webhost.bridgew.edu/jhayesboh/badbusiness.html

second search " walmart good"
1st return:
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/walmart/

crazy old walmart.....

Re: Mall-Wart - 12/07/06 04:52 AM

actually, one thing that can be good about walmart is it's size. the other night it was crappy weather and me and my bud had a great walk in walmart, three times around the store, plenty of entertainment from the other customers and those amazing walmart workers....
