Finnish Log Lingo

Finnish Log Lingo - 04/15/99 04:12 AM

During Maija Kairamo's presentation she mentioned that the Finns actually have a word in their language for replacing the bottom row of logs in a log structure. Did she say what the word was? (spelling and pronunciation please, if she did.) I am consulting on such a task for a revolutionary war period cabin. Any words of wisdom on technique will also be greatly appreciated. (The logs are pine, hewn 4 sides, 6" wide and 11" high, half lapped and pegged at the corners.)

In English what Maija referred to was called "shoeing" as if replacing the shoe's on a horse. I don't recall the finnish translation, but will forward this to Jan Lewandoski to see if he does.
