Hi there I'm a timber framer from Oregon. I did my apprenticeship in Germany and am mostly lost when it comes to timber terminology...in english is there any site or book or what have you that offers translations. For things like the scale drawing of diagonal joints and true lengths from multiple perspectives in order to be able to cut them??? It took me weeks before I could tell the friends working with me that I was putting purlins and not just 'beams' in and it is hard to sound like I know what I am talking about when I don't know what a dormer is. thanks for the help, b

Welcome brendejo,

Here's a couple links to get you started...not really translations, but it's a start:

I hope you'll visit us often. I'm sure many would love to hear about your time in Germany.
