Buildings on the move

What percentage of rural buildings have been moved or built out of salvaged materials? A substantial number of buildings I have worked on have reused timbers, foundations which do not match the age of the frame or a known history of being moved. I would guess 25% of the buildings I have worked on have been moved or recycled.

Moving was pretty common in these parts as well (southern New Hampshire). Vertical movement was also a big thing. 'Git one of them new-fangled second floors by cribbing up the house and building a new first floor. Salvage, mostly timber, has been moderate here. I suspect with all of our hills it was just too much of a pain in the *** to drag the stuff around. Then again, why spend all that hand time cutting more timber when you have a perfectly good one hanging around.

around here(central ontario, canada), quite rare to see a building without at least one recycled timber, regardless of the age of the building. Easier than hewing out a new one, I would imagine.
